How to Stay Healthy While Traveling

Travelling can instigate havoc on your immune and digestive system, not only is it almost impossible to maintain healthy habits when traveling, the different foods and lack of sleep can add up and cause uncomfortable bloating and even weight gain.  And don’t get us started on the struggles of traveling with a gluten, fructose or lactose intolerance!  With some research, planning and creative packing it can actually be much easier then first anticipated. 

 

Here are our 10 Travel tips that can help you stay healthy and enjoy your holiday. 

  1. Water
    Make sure your body is always properly hydrated, dehydration can cause fatigue and crankiness, both of which so one should feel on holiday. Purchase a travel water bottle that is BPA free and will last the journey.
  2. Magnesium
    Magnesium is fantastic for insomniacs, muscle cramping and most importantly assists constipation. Take magnesium supplements with you, and take daily.
  3. Antioxidants
    Keep your antioxidant intake steady by always consuming fresh fruit and vegetables.  Alternatively bring a superfood powder that you can mix through yoghurt or take a tablet supplement.
  1. Kombucha
    The fantastic news is that kombucha is gaining popularity all over the world, which means it can now be found in most supermarkets and service stations. Drink a kombucha as often as you can to restore gut health and ease any tummy trouble.
  2. Essential Oils
    Essential oils can have antibiotics and antibacterial properties, they can also help you sleep and ease the pain of a headache or muscle aches.
  3. Natural Hand Sanitizer
    Using a hand sanitizer before and after every meal is essential to stomach bugs at bay whilst traveling.  Think of the money, cards and items your have touched during the day that could have potentially harmful bugs on them!
  1. Get outside
    Spending some time outside in the sun will assist with jetlag and help reset your body clock.

    Tea bags will not take up much space, and hardly weigh a thing. Not only will they boost your immune system they can be used on breakouts and under eye bags to ensure they don’t stick around.
  4. Exercise
    It may be hard to fit a full blown gym workout in whist back packing, however something as simple as a 30 minute walk as often as you can will keep you feeling fresh and get rid of any guilty and sluggish feelings.
